When marching, soldiers
would always have pipers and drummers to keep them in beat, and to keep their spirits up. They also designated a soldier to
show their ‘colors’. This is basically what started the tradition of bands and guards marching together. After
awhile the idea of showing your colors spread, and all armies had people to carry their colors. The United
States military marching band helped to develop color guard. People realized
that there was plenty of music to listen to, but there was nothing to please the eye. That is when routines began being made.
Color guard went from a soldier carrying a flag to celebrate their colors to amazing performances and one of the greatest
sports of all time.
